crochet flowers

I've been taking time away from sewing to crochet....I can't wait to show you what I have in mind with these flowers.
My inspiration came from all the lovely flowers from this blog:

And you can find some fun tutorials there too.

And I love these colors, my project will consist of just pink, turquoise, gray and white.

gonna try this recipe next:
To start: Ch 6 and slip st to make a circle
Row 1: ch 3 (counts as first dc),  11 dc into the circle = 12 dc (1 is the chain 3), slip st to connect
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), *ch 2, dc into the chain space and ch 2*, *repeat for each chain space = 12 dc total (1 is the ch 3 and 11 dc)
Row 3: add new color in a chain space and ch 3(counts as first dc), 3 dc in the chain space, *ch1, 4 dc in chain space*, * repeat into each chain space = you will have 12 groups of 4 dc's around the circle

Here is where it gets tricky. Note: this may not be what the pattern really should be, but this is what I did and I think it looks like it works.
Row 4: Start your new color in the chain space. Slip st until you get to the second stitch of a group of 4 dc. Ch 5 and slip st into the third dc stitch. Continue to slip st until you get to the next group of 4 dc's. So you are going to slip st around the entire circle and making a chain loop at the second and third stitch (the middle) of each group of 4 dc's.

a coffee rug

at work I have a coffee pot that needed a rug under it so I made this! I always see all over flicker the cute little mug rugs so I thought it would be cute to make one..only for the coffee pot!

And i have been wanting to use gray as my background. I love how the scrappy fabrics stand out against the gray. this is actually inspiration for a quilt!

And then the back has a bit of a kitchen feel. It didn't turn out as cute as I hoped so I will go back to the inspiration of flickr for some more ideas.

Like this one! I love the scraps of fabric.

There is even a mug rug swap on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/1533394@N22/
Here is another cute one I had to show. There are too many posted. I love Flickr!
And I love Craftastic Monday!

I've been busy

Here are two projects I finished this weekend
This one is from my latest favorite applique book. It has projects for every month/season of the year....very festive I think!

Then I crochet this adorable hat using a G hook

I made this hat for my friend at work who is having a baby girl! So of course I attached a cute flower mixed with tule and some pearl beads.
It's just a single crochet throughout and then I shell stitched the bottom of it.
Thanks for looking!

And make sure you check out the other projects on these fun blogs

Tea Towels for Easter

Arent they a cute couple!

I just did a blanket stitch around the applique. It was so much fun to do. I'm getting really good at applique stitching on my machine. It took alot of practice for me but now I think I got it down! Which is good because I just purchased the cutest applique book...

I cannot wait to get started on this! You can make all the patterns into tea towels, pillows etc. And what had me sold was at the back of the book it has the complete alphabet in applique and numbers too!

Smirk Embroidery

Have you heard of this book? Or come across it at a quilt store?
Well this has kept me occupied all weekend. This book as the cutest little projects in it.
It has good little gift ideas.

Right now I'm working on this little towel. I'm going to give it to my friend with some hand soap.

It was hard trying to figure out how to get the picture onto the towel so I could stitch it. Because of the micro-fiber it was hard to draw on it. So finally what I did was just cut out the shape of the tub and face onto freezer paper and ironed it on the towel to use as a guide...then the freezer paper just peels off.
Here is a closer picture..

Then I just had to do the bubbles and hair free hand, and then I added the pom pom trimming. I still need to write the word "Bubblelicious" but I just wanted to show you what I was up too!

Happy Valentines Day!

I made a little somethin' somethin' to wear on heart day!
Just a simple gathered fabric flower on a chain with some pearls!

Then of course I made Valentine Sugar Cookies. To get my perfect hearts I actually cook the dough first then cut them as soon as they come out of the oven.
I have found that when I cut them before it is hard for me to transfer them onto the sheet and as it cooks it expands and loses its shape.

And here they are...they are by no means professional but aren't they festive?
Hope Everyone has a great Valentines Day!

I also wanted to show you the necklace I made. I grabbed the idea off of http://www.tatertotsandjellow.blogspot.com/

I made it for my daughter. She has to stick to school uniform colors so she always needs accessories to liven things up.  I'm loving these type of necklaces.
Make sure you check out the links below for some other great ideas!!

scrapbooking too?

Now I know why I don't scrapbook that much...I though quilting left such a mess but look at this....
Scraps, glue, scissors everywhere

Just to get this? Not sure if its worth it?

but I figured I should make a few birthday cards while I got the mess out anyway.

This one is my favorite...They are so time consuming for me because I spend hours trying to think of the cutest way to lay the papers...and I can never decided how to place each embelishment, or the words.

i love accessories!

And I love this necklace! I was browsing on Tatertotsandjello  and found this tutorial.

And I could not wait to get started...

Then of course like always I got side tracked.
I was at Target and they had these turtlenecks for $6 and since revamping your clothes is such a hit in blogland I decided to join in.
I don't care too much for turtlenecks so right away I new I would cut off the neck and make fabric flowers for embelishment.
I was so excited to get started that I didn't get to show you a before pix.

Here are the flowers..you can't see it here but I attached little pearl beads in the middle

And then I just attached them to the shirt...pretty cool huh? When spring time comes
I'm going to cut off some of the sleave and gather it so I will be a cute spring shirt. I'll repost when I do that too.

Anywho...back to working on the necklace...

knits or cotton?

This is the first time I have made anything out of knit and it was surprisingly
easier then regular cotton. I thought it would be stretchy and get out of shape while sewing but the only thing I did different was use a walking foot.
And the pattern I used was a Butterick fast and easy. It seriously took me only an hour to put it all together. You just cut out 3 pieces.

I do have to say the flowers took a little longer. Those werent part of the pattern I just added them myself.  And it past the final test. I wore it to work and got many compliments. No one even knew that I made it!

This is the pattern....
As you can see the blouse they show is very low cut. I just sew it up the top so I wouldn't be so exposed!
