Sampler blocks and such...

I started sewing some blocks together from my new Sampler Quilt pattern and can I just say it was so H A R D!! It takes a lot of unpicking and if you don't get the measurements just right they will not line up. It is very time consuming. I have 28 more blocks to go!

Moving on to some holiday stitchery...
And here is another planner sleave from my book "One Yard Wonders"

And then I had some fabric sewn in strips from a while ago and figure I should make something out of it so I made this scrap bag. It catches all the scrap fabric so that I can keep it off the carpet.

Sampler Quilt

I have been looking for a quilt to make that requires little piecing and patchwork. I think I've found it! I hardly ever use a pattern because I hate being restricted and following directions but I want to make a quilt that takes a lot of effort so I'm going to follow this pattern. I don't care too much for the color scheme so my colors are going to be red/pink values, cream and brown/taupe.

This is what intimidates
me about patterns...
And it is very small so your measurements have to be percise or it won't turn out.
I tried to make this 1st block and the squares did not line up. There are 32 blocks!! This quilt will probably take me a couple years to finish.

work in progress...

Here is a sneek peek of a quilt I'm working on.. It is almost done, just need to add a few more things... I started this quilt so long ago I can't even remember where the inspiration came from. I didn't use a pattern, just started sewing random squares together.
and this quilt top is finished! Now I just need to quilt and bind it. I didn't use a pattern on this either. It's a little baby quilt made by "Sleepy Time" fabrics by moda. It was a charm pack that I cut into 2 1/2 strips.

Sew N Tell Friday!

I am so frustrated, I don't ever have time to sew, this is all I had time to complete. 2 projects from my One Yard Wonders Book.
I made this with practice fabric cuz I didn't think I would be able to do it. I was so surprise at how easy the pattern was! If I knew it would be this cute I would have selected some of my cute fabric..anyway, I will have to make another one!

This is another reason why I couldn't get much done. I think I was in such a hurry and did not notice that the thread that was sittin' up in the holder winding around the wheel!! So this was another frustrating moment.

Then I made this "not so ugly car trash bag" (that is what they call it) but I added the extra pocket at the bottom for little stuff. I use it as an organizer for my coupons, store ads, antibacterial soap, etc. I tend to keep a lot of stuff in my car.

Hugs n' Kisses

Sew N' Tell Friday!
This garland is perfect for the holidays, I got the pattern from my "one yard wonders" book. It's made from moda fabric- L'Amour by Sandy Gervais.

I started to blanket stitch the felt letters by hand but figured if I wanted it done by Valentines then I need to figure something else out because my machine does not have the blanket stitch, but I found that the blind hem stitch does work!
And here is a full photo of the table runner. I just cut up a bunch of 2 inch strips and started sewing.
And you have seen some clips of the this but not the whole picture. I finally got the binding on it finished. These are also moda fabrics from the Urban Couture line. They are fat quarters that I got for a buck each at the quilt show in August. I didn't have a pattern for this either, I just started cutting up 3 inch strips (i think) and sewed white to the ends, It's kinda like a brick layout.

and the back is just one piece of fabric.
And my mom n law showed me how to bind a quilt perfectly and I have to admit I have mastered the skill. I love how the corners turned out.

Thanks for looking! And be sure to check out the other Sew N' Tells!

Little Things.

I finished my Valentine Table Runner, I have a little something else that I am working on that goes with it...I'll post it as soon as it's finished.
And here are my triangles that I said I would post different layouts for. You can make several different designs with these blocks just by shifting them different ways, here is a pinwheel....

You can also make a star this way too...

Here are flying geese..( I know there are other methods to making this, not sure if its a faster way though?)
and I think these might be called prairie points (kind of?) It's also the layout of the zig zag..

I finally started a zig zag quilt, I think the colors are going to be so pretty together.
I'm not using a pattern on this one either. You just start out each zig zag row with 20 brown 3inch squares and 20 khaki 3inch squares and start sewing!

Reality Sets In

Now that the holidays are over and the New Year is here I have realized I no longer have time to quilt. I had a lot of days off during Christmas and was able to sew but now it's back to work and I can't find much time. Also, as I look back I can see that I have been spending too much money on fabric. I need to slow down, I need to stay out of the quilt shops for at least a month. Just until I can get caught up on my finances...but no need to worry, I have a stash of fabric to keep me busy and a few quilts to finish. With that being said i have to show you this little tool my grandma gave me, it saves so much time.. It is called the angler and I use it all the time, it makes triangles in no time. All you do is cut your square, match them together then put the pedal to the metal.
You match the point up to the black line and sew, then flip it over and sew the other side.

Then you just cut it down the middle and iron and boom, boom, pow! Look at all the triangles I made in 30 minutes!! I didn't count the triangles but there enough to go around a twin size quilt. Now do you see how I am able to get things done around here? I'm always trying to find the fastest way to do things.
Depending on the way you layout your triangles you can also make pinwheels, stars and zig zags. Maybe I'll show an example later.

Sunday Morning

I messed around with this a bit. I don't think I will stick with it. The layout is a disappearing nine patch but I only make my quilts out of the cutest fabric possible and I don't care too much for this fabric. Here is a project I made out of my new book "One Yard Wonders" I made it for Georgie and it fits her inhaler and asthma medicine in it perfectly.

This poor guy went all month without a face. I finally bought some buttons for his eyes and now he looks great! Tea Towels are my favorite.

Valentine Fabrics

Just bought some new moda fabric from Ben Franklin, I love it! I started some Valentine Garland, a table runner and just finished this super cute pin cushion!
I grabbed the tutorial from Creative Kismet.
Stay tuned for the runner and garland...
